About

Great House Farm (Tŷ Mawr) stood beside St Dochdwy’s church at Llandough-juxta-Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan. The Williams family farmed there under the Bute estate. Mary (Nancy) Williams married Frederick Buckler in 1936, and the family stayed in the farmhouse through a series of possession actions brought by later owners.

In BP Properties Ltd v Buckler [1987] EWCA Civ 2 the Court of Appeal dismissed William Buckler’s appeal. The House of Lords refused leave in March 1988. The farmhouse was demolished in December 1988 and houses were later built on the site.

The family says the farmhouse land was theirs by long occupation. That is our case; it is not a finding of any court. Where this page says what a document shows, it quotes or summarises that document and links to it.

How this page works

Posts are in date order, oldest first, and dated to the event. Each post ends with its source. An image is shown on a post only when its own date matches the post (within two years); the build fails otherwise. Images that can’t be dated are kept in the Photos tab under “Undated”.
