A different wood from the one north of the farmhouse. Cardiff “acquired a part of Leckwith Woods comprising some 109 acres as a gift from Western Ground Rents Ltd … offered and accepted in 1940, though the transfer of ownership was not formally completed until April 1942”, with a covenant for playing field, park, recreation or pleasure ground only. By 1955 Cardiff held 176 acres and leased 106 to the Forestry Commission for 999 years. Whether the 1942 gift bears on Parcel A is a working theory.

Archive note: Measured against today’s boundaries, Leckwith Woods (62.9 ha) lies wholly outside Llandough community, 602 m from the village and 1.25 km from the farmstead. The woods near the farm are Coed Creigiaidd and Reservoir Wood. The family’s memory of “the forest, 1955” is set beside this as a hypothesis only.
